🕉️ What is Kanwar Yatra?
The Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage observed during the Hindu month of Shravan. Millions of Shiva devotees (called Kanwariyas) carry holy Ganga water from places like Haridwar, Gaumukh, and Gangotri to offer it at local Shiva temples.
📅 Important Dates for 2025
- Start Date: 11 July 2025
- End Date: 23 July 2025 (Shravan Shivratri)
🚦 Traffic Restrictions & Road Closures
Due to the massive turnout, major roads like Delhi–Meerut Expressway, Haridwar highways, and Moradabad–Lucknow routes will be partially or fully restricted for heavy vehicles between 11–23 July. Delhi Police has issued route diversions and public transport limitations to ensure safety and smooth passage for pilgrims.
🏫 Schools & Institutions Closed
Several states including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana have announced closure of schools and Anganwadis from 14–23 July. Online classes will continue in some districts.
🚉 Transport Updates
Namo Bharat (Rapid Rail) between Delhi and Meerut will run at 10-minute intervals during peak hours to manage heavy footfall during Kanwar Yatra 2025.
👮 Security & Safety Arrangements
Authorities have deployed drones, CCTV surveillance, female security personnel, bomb squads, and special traffic marshals throughout the major routes. Meat and liquor shops along the Kanwar paths are closed until 23 July.
